Fall is prime hunting season in Michigan. Many seasons are currently underway. Jeff Poet, a member of Michigan Wildlife Council, spoke on hunting and fishing in Michigan. Hunting and fishing benefit the entire state through their economic and conservation contributions. For example, studies have found that hunting and fishing contribute $11.2 billion each year to Michigan’s economy, and they support 171,000 jobs. On top of that, hunting and fishing licenses provide over $60 million annually toward the conservation of wildlife and their habitats throughout the state. In addition, through the program Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger, hunters donated deer that was processed into more than 85,000 pounds of ground venison in 2019.
